Blackpool Tower regeneration..
« on: December 04, 2010, 12:31:29 AM »
Well the Blackpool Tower is having major regeneration work to it, so I though that it does qualify for this section..

The Front

The Back

BLACKPOOL COUNCIL have granted planning permission for Blackpool Tower to undertake restoration work which will result in the tower having new signage, new attractions and free entry.

Work is already underway to restore parts of the Tower to it

Exciting times ahead for the Tower methinks!

It will be so good to see the old girl restored to her former glory, and the external improvements do seem to be sympathetic to the original designs!

I'm really looking forward to your updates Peter!!!

What an excellent post and a cracking read.

Is there anyway of seeing what is in small text on the graphics ?

Sounds very exciting and well planned.

It reallly is exciting times for Blackpool Tower this is long overdue, but has it always been called The Blackpool Tower i cant remember it being called that i might be wrong but i just prefer Blackpool Tower, its like me heading into town to visit The Edinburgh Castle,i know its a bit petty but it i prefer it as Blackpool Tower :P

Hmmm!!!!!

I knew there was something "different" about the front elevation plans - but it hadn't really registered until
you mentioned it Derek - The Blackpool Tower - I suppose as signage goes it will look impressive!

But as to what we call it, well I don't suppose much will change - when I am in Blackpool I always refer to it as The Tower, and when I am at home I refer to it as Blackpool Tower - I don't think I will get out of that habit somehow!!
Always look for the positive.....

Thanks for all this Peter.

A really interesting read and impressive photos above. I've never seen such glorious close ups as you have just posted. Applause given.

All the scaffolding round the top looks like a giant hairnet!!!  ;D

I agree with Sixties_Kid, when in Blackpool when talking about the old girl we always say 'the tower' and when outside of Blackpool and talking about it we then say 'Blackpool Tower'

I will never start saying 'Have you been in The Blackpool Tower' or the like.

As a slight aside, an outsider like myself would also really appreciate photographic updates of the road and headland alterations Peter if you are able to oblige and as you are right by it when updating the tower project.

Would that be possible please?

Peter,

If you haven't already thought of this.

When you next in town, drive up to the top of West Street Car Park and have a look at the angle from there for your 'record' shots of the building work at the top of the tower.

About the highest, nearest, public place, you can drive to, up and back down again without paying these days too --- which is nice.

Looks like they were testing lights down the legs of the tower this afternoon.

Last few nights the tower legs have been 2/3rds lit up. Just the middle 3rd to light up yet.

Been a few different colours, but not seen them cycling/changing colours like the Tower top does.
