Blackpool BMX track..
« on: July 13, 2011, 11:45:15 PM »
The track has been built in partnership between Blackpool Council, British Cycling, Cycling England and Blackpool NHS.

It is 380m long, making it one of the longest tracks in the country. It will host regional and national level competitions bringing more riders in to the town to make use of the track.

It will also be open for public use so residents of any age can have a go at their leisure

Coun Graham Cain, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Culture said: “This is yet another landmark for Blackpool.

“It will bring with it national recognition for the town in this very spectator friendly sport.

“It will also increase the opportunity for our residents to try out a new sport and make use of a free facility in our park.”

Its amazing, but the First Aid that was on offer leaves a lot to be desired..

Not sure if they were volunteers or council workers, but they were shocking when I was there..

In what respect?

Whilst I was there, I observed a shambolic response by the Medical Team on duty..

2 young lads crashed and bled quite heavily, I was about to go and treat the boys as I am qualified to do so.

The two woman first aiders ran down the large slope, and took control of the situation.

They shared a cotton swab between them patting and rubbing the blood of each child with the same swab, the boy that suffered a nasty facial/head injury was requested to walk to the side of the track..
The correct procedure would be to assess and move when safe to do so..

A complete shambles..

Sorry but it needs to be said..

The track looks great, where abouts is it?

As the for the first aid.... I can't believe the procedures you witnessed....  There is no way they were trained like that by a professional (at least I hope not!!!)   It really needs to be brought to their attention as they could do more harm than good.....

Chris.

It appears that the hill start has been closed..Not sure if its just  going to be used for events..

I suspect that Health & Safety have got involved as young kids with adults supervising them, were using the course WITHOUT the very basic equipment like safety helmets and leg/arm protection..

Hi, just to let you all know we have our first proper event down at the track on Sunday 5th August. It will show off what the facility should really be used for  :thumbup1:

Cheers
Andy
