World Grand Prix Darts - The Final
« on: October 09, 2011, 07:29:44 PM »
Now on Sky Sports One, live from Dublin.

I've enjoyed this tournament, which has been on all week since Monday. Fantastic tournament with a really passionate crowd.

For those unaware of the format, it is a little bit different. 501 with a double to start and finish. Best of five legs to take a set.

The first round was only the best of three sets and, with this format it saw some major shocks with World Champion Adrian Lewis and Gary Anderson falling by the wayside out of the 32 who started.

As the rounds have passed so the sets have increased, but not by that much and even the final is only the besy of eleven.

Some things change but one remains consistent and that is Phil 'The Power' Taylor and he has looked formidable all week and he has reached the final where he takes on Brendan Dolan, an Irish man who has been a breath of fresh air all week and culminated it last night with the first televised nine darter in this format of the game as he beat James Wade.

It is great for the tournament that a home grown player has reached the final and the Irish crowd, as I type, are fully behind their man, creating a fabulous atmosphere  :thumbup1:

Well, 'The Power' won it by six sets to three. He was never truly at his best though and Brendan Dolan gave him a run for his money, nearly whitewashing Taylor in one leg (something Phil actually did manage early on in the match).

Great final though and well done PT, but big credit to BD and hopefully he will go from strength to stregth after his strong showing this last week  :thumbup1:

Credit must go to Brendan Dolan for reaching the final. The 'unofficial real' winner.

Taylor was booed a few times by the fans when he went for the doubles against Dolan.

No difference to the treatment received by Henderson and Wade when they faced the Irishman on his own patch.

The difference was that Taylor saw fit to comment on it with a snide little comment of 'I hope when Dolan comes to play in England he doesn't have to put up with that'

Ther was no need really. Sometimes Taylor does disappoint with his little digs like that.
