Looks great.

Can't wait to see the astronaut in place overhead too.

Thanks for the link Russ.

That third picture looks like it is about to shoot off up Dickson Road!!!

Finally got round to seeing this, and taking some pictures.. :thumbup1:

First impressions..?

I prefer the Carousel, sorry.. :( :(

It looks like an after thought, I just don't get the artistic nature of it..I am being honest, I hope people respect my complete honesty..

If this is the finished article, I am very disapointed to tell you the truth..

Maybe it will look better all lit up.. :thumbup1:

I suspect the poles around it are for something..

I tried to re-create an Illumination type situation..It doesn't look that out of place with a few effects..

Thanks for the pics Peter, you haven't been reading the threads though have you with the finer details, including this one - Naughty boy  ;)

Just to put you in the picture, it is not the finished article. One of the Spacemen from the 70's road feature has come back into the possession of the illuminations department and is being suspended above the rocket and then there are further finishing touches to be made after that.

I don't think anything will ever match the Carousel, which was an absolute awesome display - a roundabout on a round about, it just fitted like a glove on a hand.

Unfortunately, corrosion had set in and it had reached the end of its lifespan, so it had to go.

The Rocket is an iconic tram and illuminated feature and for that alone it will prove very popular. I think it will be the best display on Gynn roundabout since the Carousel, although Fountaincy Island was awesome in its first year - before that prat torched the holding depot where the fountains where stored.

Sadly everything now will be compared to the Carousel (I do it myself, so I'm not knocking anyone) but perhaps it is a little unfair and the roundabout displays should be judged on their own merits and not comparatively.

Wasn't there two at the Solaris Centre at the entrance? Not sure if they are still there now Kevin. Others were made available in the illumination sale in January 2008 and I have seen one that has appeared on eBay.

I haven't seen any remaining at the Light Works depot, though that doesn't mean there aren't any lurking around. Richard told me though that they could not be used any more due to the effects of corrosion. One day I would love to see it replicated though.

im sure 1 will have been kept either that or the moulds, barring the fact that the could have been in the old depot during the fire

Cheers Kevin

I thought it looked quite good. Not as good as Carousel, but as I have said previously, it is unfair to compare as that was in a class of its own.

I think there are still planned finishing touches to it when Richard and the team get chance but it is all hands on getting the Fluted Pylons up behind the Metropole ready for their very own Switch-On on Wednesday.

Poor Richard was in the depot working on them at 7:50am on Saturday morning, following a late night after the Switch-On event (we went for a curry and didn't get a taxi from there until 1.30am!!)
