Regeneration of Blackpool 2013 Talbot Gateway
« on: January 16, 2013, 10:28:34 PM »
Over the next few years I will be covering this topic, Blackpool is trying to change or regenerate..
In these very harsh and difficult economic times, investment in building projects like this normally takes a back seat..
If nothing is done or changed, new business will not flourish and Blackpool will fail to attract new business or tourists to its town..
So what is the Talbot Gateway..?

Talbot Gateway Central Business District is set to undergo a transformation with new hotels, shops and restaurants planned. The Talbot Gateway project also includes new offices, a supermarket and cafes on a site near Blackpool North train station. The work is set to start in 2011, creating hundreds of jobs.It is hoped that the plans will give the resort a boost, after its failure to secure a super casino licence. An agreement is set to be signed later. The Talbot Gateway agreement is to be signed by Blackpool Council and Muse Developments. Sir Howard Bernstein, chairman of ReBlackpool, the local regeneration body, said: "This project will transform a neglected and under-utilised area of the town into a welcoming family-friendly gateway, encouraging more people to visit, providing better services for local people and encouraging inward investment."Work is expected to start after a period of local consultation and planning permission procedures. The project is one of a number planned to revitalise Blackpool.

ONE of the biggest small company organisations in the country has backed Blackpool’s new Central Business District proposals.
Phase One of the £220m plan will see up to 1,000 Blackpool Council staff brought into a central block, alongside new private sector offices. Talbot Road bus station will be completely refurbished and turned into a multi-storey car park with retail units below.and in a few week’s time, the third application relating to phase one will be lodged which includes a giant supermarket, set to create more than 300 jobs.

Hugh Evans, policy director of the Chamber of Trade’s North and Western Lancashire division, said the move would attract more investment to the town. He added: “This is a great boost for Blackpool.“Positive news like this is just the sort of message potential investors need to hear. "The fact that all parties involved are confident enough to proceed with the scheme should hopefully be enough to convince other investors to take a look at the other opportunities that Blackpool has to offer”. Hundreds more construction jobs will be created over the 18-month projected build time and Blackpool Council is insisting.

I was there today and I have taken a few pictures of the development..

Sainsbury's Superstore is taking shape, and its lift shafts are nearly complete..

It's really gathering momentum isn't it?

It should be good for the area when completed.

What we need now are high value private sector jobs. Should build a science and engineering centre of excellence

A brilliant update. The amount of new business and employment benefits will be very substantial and this is much more beneficial to the populace than the failed Casino bid.

Chris.

As I haven't been in Blackpool for a couple of years, it will be interesting to see how this part of the town is shaping up.
Always look for the positive.....

Good to see "the old timers" back  I suppose I am a bit of an "old timer myself!

Yes my last time in Blackpool was at the time of the 2012 Olympics.

Hoping to get up during the illuminations, even if it's just for a day trip
