Tower Lounge To Close
« on: August 10, 2014, 11:13:20 PM »
Hi

I have just read on Joey Blowers face book feed that the Tower Lounge is to close, I have not been able to find any other storys about this on the net, Allthough not my personal cup of tea I am sure this closure if true will be a loss to many of the visitors who do like that kind of thing.

Allthough if true I think its been on the cards since Merlin took over the tower for the council as that part of the building did not fit in with the companys strategy of the Tower being a family attraction.

This that was reported earlier in July may have something to do with it:

I've heard about this too. Allegedly, the lounge is to close at the end of the season but nothing has been officially confirmed...

I haven't been in there since Merlin took over management of the Tower but I used to like it. Truth be told though, I'd prefer a pint in the Tower Ballroom bar, whilst watching the ballroom dancing!

during the week it was okay but at weekends it catered more for the people the resort could do without, wonder if it will be turned into a family bar or themed restaurant

If what I read today is correct, it's closed already... I will have to check it out next week.

This is a prime site on the promenade, if Merlin have taken the decision to close it "voluntarily", you can bet your bottom dollar they have plans for it that fit in better with, and compliment the rest of the Tower complex.

Yes I think some sort of themed diner is on the way, though if they had any sense they would install some sort of attraction that would ultimately increase footfall within the Tower itself, imo anyway.

Btw, the new frontage looks magnificent,  :thumbup:but if I remember correctly, the original plans submitted to the planning dept included a glass canopy over the seaward side entrance. Any news on this, or has it been quietly "buried"?

the last i remember they were restoring all the arched glass windows along the front, that why it has hideous boardings along the front,if im correct some of the ones that have been restored were on view briefly earlier but there is still many to go.There may be a canopy along the front like there used to be once this work is all done

According to a posting by Blackpool Tower on FB last week, all the glass and arch work is now complete, and all door ways are now operational. They posted an image and it does look very impressive.

There was no mention of the canopy though, so was wondering if anyone knew anything about it.
