Oakwood Theme Park - Easter Hols 2015
« on: April 24, 2015, 08:02:20 AM »
We spent a few days in Wales over Easter. It's a beautiful country and full of wonderful, scenic driving :thumbup1:
Whilst there we visited Oakwood. A small, pretty theme park that is home to Megafobia

Due to me being a pillock, I had left my good camera at home, so I only a have a few shots from the camera phone

Ben points to his first ever upside down coaster, Speed. It was superb and he handled it like a boss  8)

It's a tradition for Ben and I to always ride a Pirate Ship at a theme park.

The main event, Megafobia. A wooden coaster that is very popular with coaster enthusiasts. The queue was 90 mins but was worth the wait. It was truly exceptional  :w00t:

We had a very scenic drive back to the hotel.

Despite the awesomeness of Megafobia, Oakwood was a big disappointment. No toilet paper in the loos, poor selection of food and minimal staffing on all rides. Even Megafobia had one person doing everything  :scared: Can you imagine The Big One being run by one person? Such a shame. No wonder the park was mostly quiet and in the holidays, too. Clearly, money is a big issue for them.

I do hope they can turn things around though, because it's a lovely little park with a decent selection of traditional rides and a few decent thrill rides, too.

Chris.

I've just had to google Oakwood Theme Park as I've actually never heard of it.

I wonder if that water flume called Drenched was the one that was once in the American Adventure Theme Park(Derbyshire) ? If it is, it's obviously been done up quite a bit.

Thank you for report & photos, Chris!

Thanks, Chaps. It's a lovely (as in pretty) place to visit but bear in my mind my observations. If you're prepared then you won't find the park as much of a disappointment as I did.

Keno, Drenched was formerly known as Hydro. It's a straight up, turn and drop affair, with a 45ft wave at the end! I did upload a photo to my online provider but it didn't upload successfully and couldn't include it, here. It's very similar to Thorpe Park's Tidal Wave.  Here's a link to a photo (not mine.)

There are a couple of other fun rides of note, such as Tree Tops (a family coaster amongst some trees) and a Bob Sleigh ride, the name illudes me, i'm sorry. It's a very old fashioned one and Alton Towers used to have one just like it, back in the early 80's.
