I have to say I wouldn't even cross the road to watch that man. I never "got" Mock the Week and his stand-up stuff just seems to be offensive for the sake of it.

I dont really watch much TV these days if I am being honest. If I'm not online on the forums I'll be on the PS3 !

TV treats for me these days include Doctor Who - more to come on that later -, Total Wipeout (USA), Come Dine With Me and Hells Kitchen USA. The final for Hells Kitchen USA is on ITV 2 tomorrow night.

I do wish Gordon Ramsay would do another series of his Kitchen Nightmares though.

Anyway, Doctor Who....

I have been utterly blown away by how good a start to Matt Smith's reign as the Doctor has been. The only things I didnt like at first were the new tune and titles. However, even both of them have grown on me and I absoluely love them.

Matt Smith has effortlessly slipped into the role of the Time Lord and it's refreshing to see that the overacting of the Tennant Doctor is now a thing of the past. He's like Troughton and Tom Baker rolled into one and that's no bad thing. In Amy Pope we also have a completely believable and likeable sidekick.

Yesterdays episode was superb and the new look Daleks are simply awesome.

I'm still a huge fan of the "classic" series, but am now well and truly hooked on the new ones too. Of course it will still be difficult for them to ever eclipse the Pertwee saga "Inferno" - a DVD any Doctor Who fan should own.

Sorry ,... What, What,...WHAT.

I had to pour copious amounts of bleach into my eyes { dont try that at home kids } to try and burn the image of the Moffs multi coloured Daleks from my vision, they were hideous the classic pepperpot shape has been totally bastardised for the sake of selling a few new toys, Raymond Cussick must be horrified at what they did to his creation, { and after a quick check, he was }

yup Matt is shaping up nicely to be the best Doctor { since the er... last er best Doctor lol }  but he aint getting much help from the likes of Moffat and Gatiss.

I thought the latest episode of Dr Who was brilliant but not the best Daleks episode.....Like Mr Womble, I did not like the multi coloured Daleks, either.

I really do appear to be in a minority. BBC have actually received around 70 complaints about the new Daleks !!

Some people do need to get a life, or at least some kind of grip sometimes !!

I've actually watched the episode again today. Didnt feel quite as strong the 2nd time around (Bill Paterson is a terrible actor - wont forgive him for Ally Fraser !!) but still more enjoyable than most of the offerings under the past Doctor.

As for the new look Daleks. Sorry but I still love 'em !

Perhaps they should try not have the Daleks on the show quite so often though. That said they're still better than the Cybermen !!

I watched a bit of that last night and must admit I pissed myself laughing at it. The art class sketch was hilarious.

Away from that I watched Death Wish 5 for the first (and last) time. I love Death Wish 2 - one of my favourite films of all time - but god Number 5 was terrible ! Might have been the wine and Drambuie combination but I fell asleep through it and missed about half an hour of it too.

For tonight it's all about Sky Plus. We're off to celebrate our nephew's 1st birthday today and with the sun set to shine there's going to be a lot of drink drunk today so wont be watching much telly tonight.

Enjoying my 2nd glass of red for the day already. I dont have a problem....honest ! :P

Really? I would like to consider myself a big fan of american shows, but FlashForward just didn't do it for me. I watched the first 6 or 7 and came to the conclusion that nothing had really happened since episode 1 (the blackout) so I kinda gave up, which I rarely do. But its fine if you enjoy it....maybe I should give it another go!?

Anyways, Lost is by far the greatest show ever made. ;)

Brilliant! I caught a little montage at the end of the news.  What made me laugh (satirically of course,) was that Mr Brown said it had been 'a privilege to serve this country'. He didn't serve it. He fudged it up, good and proper. Good riddance.

But back on topic, I watched the last in the series of Duncan Bannatyne's Seasside Rescue. The last one was in Sandowne in the Isle Of Wight. Well worth watching on the ol' Iplayer.

Well we're now 6 episodes into the new series of Doctor Who so whats your opinions on it so far ?

For me it's been the TV highlight of the year so far - and probably the highlight for many a year. Matt Smith is fast on the way to becoming my favourite Doctor of all time - closely on the heels of Jon Pertwee already !

Amy Pond is absolutely stunning as well  :-* :-* and even the much maligned theme tune has grown on me.

They could - in my opinion - do with ditching the boyfriend as his presence doesn't really feel like it's required.

Finally, a reason for me to stay in on Saturday nights.

Another cracking Top Gear tonight.

I thought the section with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz was superb. They never came across, for a second, as high-brow stars and Clarkson is becoming an absolute master at interviews.

Best of all for me though was the poignant tribute to Ayrton Senna. Cant believe he would have been 50 this year. I can still remember exactly where I was, watching the TV dumbfounded and through lots of tears, when he died.

I was always firmly in the Mansell camp, but still regarded Senna as a True hero also.

When he skates onto back of bus and then says he has no change has me in tears of laughter. His 'vesuvius' is pure genius too.

Also been enjoying repeats of Strike It Rich. For all his failings the telly is a poorer place without Barrymore.

They've been running through the whole Moore era and it's been fantastic to watch them all in HD. Can't wait for A View to a Kill next week too. Fair enough he looked about 20 years too old in it and you have to ask what he was thinking about getting into bed with Grace Jones, but it's still a class film.

It's not just because he was "my" Bond, but Moore is far and away my favourite actor to play the role. Controversially I'd have Timothy Dalton second too !
Title: Re: on TV
Post by: Britcitchris on September 13, 2010, 12:38:30 AM
I think we are on exactly the same page with regards to Bond. Moore was my favourite when growing up, even if he wasn't very manly like Connery. I really liked Timothy Dalton, too. Despite the critical slamming, I thought Licence To Kill was a great film.

What will surely be THE TV event of the year sounds like it's just a few hours away now with the rescue of those poor miners in Chile.

I'm not a very religious man by any means but I'll be praying that every one of those poor buggers gets out of there safely over the course of the next couple of days. What they have been through is absolutely unimaginable.

Absolutely agreed Dave.

Let's hope it goes without any hitches. I'm glad they have reached them so soon. It is awful they have been there so long, but there was talk initially it would take a lot longer to get them out.

Title: Re: on TV
Post by: Dave on October 13, 2010, 07:43:28 PM
Spain were still in a different class and 3-2 definitely didn't really accurately reflect the way the game went. 13-2 might have been more appropriate.

Still, after the utter humiliation of playing 4-6-0 against Czech Republic on Friday (for which Levein should be shot) some pride was restored. Charlie Adam played really well when he came on too which was nice.

However, today is all about the amazing events in Chile. It's really hard not to feel quite emotional watching those guys coming up that shaft and being greeted by their loved ones.

Truly amazing telly and isn't it refreshing to see the news channels littered with good news for a change !

I do like the ads for Chuck, I must say....but have never watched it. I find it difficult to dedicate the time into any t.v. series.

Saying that though, I'm finding myself making the effort for The Apprentice and Britain's Best Drives. Richard Wilson was a superb choice for that show.

I found this fantastic site, the other day. It's www.tvcatchup.com  It's basically a freeview streamer via the web. Bloomin' handy it is.  I've been working upstairs recently on some tiresome filing and using the wifi on my PS3, I have been able to have some tv on in the background. (There is hardly any tv signal in our bedroom, so being able to watch tv using that  website is really handy....)

Thanks to the unending efforts of Emily and Dave Jnr I am now absolute hooked on the hilarious Phineas and Ferb cartoon on the Disney XD Channel. Indeed over the past 2 or 3 days I've now spent several hours watching them on marathons !

Today I even discovered that it's available in HD too. Perfect !

Away from that I still absolutely love Man vs Food on the Food Channel (249 on Sky and 283 on Sky HD). Well worth watching !

Still cant even force myself to watch x-factor. Other than that incredibly annoying bird with the blonde hair who screwed up her audition I couldn't even tell you who was in it !!

Apprentice has been good, although there are no obvious winners in it yet and it does have something of a 'Big Brother' feel to it this season.

Really saddedned to read of the death of TV Legend Tom Bosley - aka Howard Cunningham in Happy Days.

All this week on ITV4 it's the Grand Slam of Darts. A brilliant competition pitting the best of the BDO in with the best of the PDC (albeit Martin Adams never plays in it - bottler !).

Hoping for some sporting cheer after the way things went at the weekend. Pars losing a 2 goal lead to local rivals Raith, Celtic scoring yet another last minute winner and Sebastian bloody Vettel winning the F1 World Championship after possibly the most boring "race" it's ever been my misfortune to watch.

I am too ;D  I'm thoroughly ashamed though of the public for continually voting Gillian for the trials. If she doesn't stand up and give the viewers a big 'up yours' (and by that I mean leaving,) then they will be responsible for a serious incident with her mental health.

Got to disagree with that. She deserves everything that's coming her way. Her attitude from the minute they all got together was wrong, and I wouldn't like to think that she'll be accepted for any acting schools soon after her "fainting" farce last night.

Has anyone been watching Got To Dance? I like the look of the way the auditions are set out, especially as the judges don't ask the contestants anything before they start dancing. The fact that the prize is £250000 makes it pretty tempting to enter, but they do seem to be pretty strict and only look for the absolute best of the best, even at the auditions.

Mastermind on now.

Specialist Subjects :

1st Contestant -- Pendle Witches

2nd Contestant -- England at World Cup

3rd Contestant -- Gary Numan

4th Contestant -- Operation Barbarossa ( invasion of Russia by Nazi Germany )

Never got so many answers on the Specialist Subjects.

Worth catching again on iPlayer for the "England at World Cup" subject -- I think I beat the guy who was actually playing :)

EDIT -- And I beat his (England World Cup Guy) General Knowledge score too :)

Watched an incredibly moving program on BBC last night about the blitz attack on Clydebank. One of the most vicious attacks of the 2nd world war.
Was not a dry eye in my house when we were watching it. The stories of what these folks went through even as young children was truly incomprehensible.
The sacrifices of that generation must never be allowed to be forgotten.
If you can get it on I-player I strongly recommend it.

Did anyone watch the latest offering from Torchwood which finished last Thursday?

It was a ten part series this time focusing on one story. An American company have now got involved in the making of it and I understand it was a joint collaboration with the BBC.

The series was filmed both in the USA and Cardiff.

The gist was that one day death stopped, although Captain Jack Harkness suddenly found that he was mortal!

Much of it was quite disturbing and it was certainly thought prevoking. I found it very enjoyable and it looks as though there will be another series made. Super stuff!!

Stella tonight - awesome

Debbie McGee and Keith Chegwin both featured in tonight's show.

The diversification, yet closeness of characters definitely is a strong point. I particularly love Daddy, the non cartoon version of Kenny from South Park. It was so hilarious last week when he spoke with his mouth full and several of the other cast lambasted him for speaking with his mouth full as they couldn't understand a word he was saying!!  Brilliant stuff
